The Amulet of Samarkand is the first in the Bartimaeus trilogy. It's about a boy named Nathaniel who is a magician's apprentice learning magic and Bartimeaus who is a spirit type thing. Nathaniel is controlling him to get revenge on Simon Lovelace. They get in lots of trouble. The story takes turns between what Nathaniel is doing and Bartimaeus telling the story. It's exciting because right when Bartimaeus, for example, is doing something exciting it goes over to Nathaniel. Pretty much the whole story is like this. I would definitely recommend this book!!!!
